Springfield School Rebuild Update
It has been a busy few weeks on the construction site. Our Department for Education (DfE) funded rebuild is officially in full swing, and we are starting to see some big (and muddy!) changes around the school grounds.
Progress to Date
-
Site Setup: KIER's builders have moved in, set up their welfare hub, and connected all the temporary water and power they need to keep the project running.
-
Groundwork: The team has finished clearing out 'hotspots' in the hard court area and has started work on the new attenuation tanks (the clever underground system that manages rainwater).
-
Final designs: While the builders are on-site, the architects/designers are busy behind the scenes finishing the 'Stage 5' designs, i.e. the final, detailed blueprints for the structures.
The Star of the Show: The Vac Ex
If you have walked near the perimeter of the school field lately, you have probably seen the Vacuum Excavator in action. It has been a massive hit with many of the students. Watching this giant, high-tech 'hoover' safely uncover underground lines has been a fascinating highlight of the project so far.
Navigating the Challenges
As with any complex project, a couple of challenges and delays have been hit. The teams are currently working through some final paperwork with SGN (the gas network) regarding a wayleave agreement, and working closely with archaeological experts to make sure the historical finds are properly recorded and reviewed.
Safety First
The best news is that the site is running like a well-oiled machine. Works had a formal safety inspection in March and passed with flying colours - no incidents and a very high safety score.
