The De Curci Steps into the Future: Staff Unite for Cutting-Edge Training on AI, Cybersecurity, and Inclusion

An atmosphere of collaboration and future-focused energy filled the halls of Springfield today, as almost 200 staff gathered for the Trust's annual INSET day. The event marked a significant investment in professional development, blending high-tech innovation with our community's shared holistic values for education.

Digital Resilience and Innovation

The day launched with a high-impact keynote address on Cybersecurity, led by Holly Foxcroft, a leading voice in the field. With schools increasingly relying on digital infrastructure, the keynote provided vital insights into digital resilience, data protection, and maintaining a secure environment for students and staff alike.

Following the keynote, the buzz continued with practical workshops on the safe use of Artificial Intelligence in education run in partnership by Trust staff and Gemma Gwilliam, Portsmouth's Head of Digital Learning, Education and Innovation.  As AI becomes a reality in the wider world, the De Curci Trust is taking a proactive approach. Staff explored how to harness AI tools to reduce administrative workload and create dynamic learning resources, while strictly adhering to safety protocols and ethical standards.

At the Heart of Teaching: Connection

While technology was a major focus, the Trust ensured the 'human element' remained center stage. A parallel stream of workshops, led by expert Huw Lloyd of CPI, focused on Inclusive and Relational Practice.

These sessions reinforced the Trust’s commitment to ensuring every child feels a sense of belonging. Staff delved into evidence-based strategies for building strong, positive relationships with students, supporting diverse needs, and creating classrooms where every learner can thrive emotionally and academically.

A Unified Vision

Sara Spivey, CEO of the De Curci Trust, commented on the success of the day:

"Today was about learning and empowerment; it's essential that we don't just react to technology, but learn how to use it properly.  By combining cutting-edge technical skills with the timeless importance of inclusive, relational practice, we are ensuring our schools remain the safest, most innovative, and most welcoming places they can be."

The INSET day concluded with networking and planning sessions, allowing staff to reflect upon and start to apply their new training.
