Springfield School Rebuild
09 February 2026
Groundwork for the new Springfield School is well underway. While recent heavy rains have made the site exceptionally muddy, construction remains on schedule with no hazardous ordnance discovered during recent sweeps.
Specialist archaeologists on-site have uncovered some fascinating items, including:
-
Cockle shells, suggesting the site was once submerged by the sea
-
Knapped flints, possibly used by early humans
-
Cow bones
-
A large bundle of barbed wire
-
Hidden Infrastructure - a manhole and fully functioning drains were discovered ~3m beneath the turf, providing new insights into the site’s previous development
These discoveries offer a unique look into Springfield’s past, from its prehistoric coastline to its modern utility!
